Successful People and their Habits

Successful people generally have daily habits that contribute to their success. It’s easy to be jealous of successful people and their achievements. However, they have worked very hard to get to where they are.

There are certain things that many outrageously successful people tend to have in common – and these things have nothing to do with luck. They are habits that have helped them to success.

In fact, these habits are things you can replicate in your own life, giving YOU the best chance of success in life and business.

Here are some of the habits that successful people follow regularly, if not daily.

  • They get up early – Now don’t be put off by this. However, how often do you see successful people getting out of bed at 11am? Not many. Sure, there are exceptions, but as a rule, you’ll find many are up early and starting their day as they mean to go on. Try it.
  • Meditation or Prayer – This is not something i do regularly, but i know 100% it works. I know a bunch of successful people and they do one or the other, sometimes even both! I find my brain can’t switch off for long enough to meditate.
  • They exercise! – This is so important for mind AND body. This is something i do regularly, 3 times a week. We just got a dog on Sunday and i am Loving all the walking. I feel energised and ready to crack on with the rest of my day.
  • They set goals – Tony Robbins says, “Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” Set clear and consider goals and refer back to them regularly. I do love setting goals and stocking to them.

A few more successful habits:

  • They network – successful people get out there and network online and offline. They get their name out there and are consistent about it.
  • Consistent – YEP, it’s true (shocker), successful people are consistent and they have a daily schedule. they write out what they need to achieve that day and get it done. Successful people certainly don’t make excuses.
  • They set boundaries: Successful people aren’t afraid to say no. They set boundaries and are strict with them. I set boundaries in my business world 4-5 years ago and i have never looked back.
  • They read – They read a lot, stay up to date and own many many business books. Novels help with storytelling too. This post Here will tell you more about storytelling and being human in business.

Which habits from the list above could you start adding to your daily routine? There are more you can add, like positive self talk, helping others, giving back etc. Also learning from mistakes rather than beating yourself up over ‘failures’. They’re not failures if you learn from them.

Being human in business is a given if you know what you’re doing. However, there are many out there who have no clue, they’re still advertising like it was 10 years ago OR all they’re doing is selling their products and boring the hell out of everyone. Is that you? I hope not!

How to be human in business

It’s easy really, just be yourself. Be the person your friends and family see, let your audience see a real person behind the business. There is no more B2B or B2C anymore, it’s B2H (business to human).

Social media is packed full of businesses now, so it’s become harder and harder to get in front of your audience, never mind stay in front of them. It’s time to stand out and jazz things up. Ready?

Tips on how to be human in business

  • Show a behind the scenes picture. It could be what you’re working on or even your office space.
  • How about a Facebook Live? These can be real game changers and it’s a great way to build report with your audience. Make a list of things you could talk about, then just go for it. Don’t worry if you make mistakes, it just makes you more human!
  • Reply to every comment on your social media platforms. Don’t just ‘Like’ it, actually converse.
  • Post relatable content to your audience that has nothing to do with what you sell. Example: If your audience is predominantly mothers, post a coffee post that says’ i will mostly be living on coffee today – the baby didn’t sleep a wink’. You get the picture. There a ton of ideas out there.

Setting boundaries in business is something i have found many businesses don’t learn until they might be a year or more into their business. It was the same for me in my previous corset business. I was available to everyone constantly. I was replying to emails and messages on Facebook at midnight… not good! setting boundaries

Things changed after i invested in a course years ago. It was a course to grow my business, but also included boundary setting. The course taught about setting boundaries and why you shouldn’t be readily available constantly. I was close to burn out at that stage.

How did setting boundaries effect my business?

Admittedly, a few customers who had gotten used to me being there all the time were a bit miffed that suddenly i wasn’t replying to them immediately and some even said it was bad customer service!! Seriously, burning out and burning the candle on both ends is NOT healthy. Setting boundaries was essential more than anything else. I simply explained that i could not be available all the time, however i would be available between these hours and if people didn’t catch me in the evening before i logged off, then i would of course reply in the morning.

Then i got really brave and turned off the messenger functionality on my page. The page had grown so much that i was waking to so many messages and it was stressing me. By turning off the messages, it encouraged people to either email or simply as their question on my page, which was even better for business.

How you can set boundaries

Some easy way you can set boundaries in your business or personal life is to not be readily available all the time. My new thing is 2 evening a week my phone goes on silent face down and i enjoy some time to myself. It’s not about being online Constantly!

Set times that you check emails. Morning and afternoon is sufficient, you don’t have to be on there at 10pm! Conclusion: Give yourself a break, be kind and stop letting people control your day. Because your health mattres and you have to put yourself first every now and then. Hence switching off and making time for you.

Why i think investing in your business is crucial. Because i have done it myself and once upon a time i tried to do it all myself too.

Social media is a beast and a beast that changes regularly. You need to be on it all the time (7 days a week) and know your shit. If you don’t, that’s when you need professional help and it’s time to invest in your business. I basically fudged it for over two years in my previous business. All I was doing was reading free blog posts, fudging it on Facebook all the time. I had zero strategy. What the hell was strategy after all?

When I finally invested … I think my first mentor cost me …  was £7,000. I shit myself. I’m thinking, “There is no way I’m gonna be able to do this.” I remember putting a lot of it on a credit card. Let me tell you this though, it was the best thing I’ve ever done. Within two or three months, I was doubling my income. Within 18 months, I was making five figures a month. I was turning over five figures a month!! I was blown away by what a professional mentor can do for you.

When you need to invest in your business.

I also got approached a few weeks ago being asked, “Can we swap services?” Now, what this lady had to offer wasn’t anything that I needed, but she wanted my expertise. Now like I said, Facebook isn’t a quick fix. It’s a lot of  strategies and a lot of learning.

I tried to explain this to her, but i wasn’t getting through and in the end we parted ways and no services were swapped. She is still fudging it by the way…. This is why investing in your business is crucial.
