Follow Up
Follow up on both email and social media. Follow up is quite possibly what most people are shit at and i get it, it’s boring. Let me tell you however how and why it works. Some of you will know i had a corset business for years and closed it due to losing money on it. But i got bored in September and re-launched it. Here’s how i added another £900 in turnover in just 4 days last week.
Follow Up on Social Media
I posted a corseted jacket that people were commenting on left, right and centre. They all loved it, but it was pricey. I had a 20% off coupon running on the site that not many knew about, because Facebook don’t show as many posts as they used to. Just a small fraction in fact, compared to what they used to show.
So i took 2-3 hours out of my Thursday last week and i followed up on every single comment. By Saturday, i had turned over £700 extra JUST from that time spent on follow up. Still not sure it’s worth it? You’d be nuts not to believe it works.
Follow Up on Email
I’m a single mum, on Sunday (yesterday) i was waiting for the kids to be dropped off home by their dad and feeling a little anxious because of the snow on the roads. Yet also excited because i wanted to go out and play with the kids in it. So i kept myself busy. I popped on the corset website and noticed 3 people had ‘abandoned their cart’ within the last 48 hours, so i popped them a quick email. Just 2-3 lines worth. I used their name, asked if they were having a great weekend and reminded them the 20% off ended the following morning.
Whilst i was cooking a roast dinner, 2 of those emails converted and kerching, 2 NEW orders. Just from spending 5 minutes sending a quick personalised email.
Stop Making Excuses
Stop making excuses that follow up doesn’t work, because it damn well does! I made close to £900 extra (ok turnover) but still…. just from the follow up! It took no more than 3 hours.
I posted my success in a group, a lady went and followed up in her business and bam, 2 new orders for her!
Why does follow up work?
Sometimes people are on the run when commenting or purchasing. Sometimes children get in the way or we suddenly forget the chicken is about to burn, so we stop what we’re doing. Then often forget what we were doing. So my little follow up email, simply reminded them that were about to buy something awesome. I just gave them to push to hit the check out button.
What will you do to get better at following up?
