Shitty Business Clients
We’ve all had shitty clients. You now, the ones where they moan at just about everything, always on the phone/email about something or another and the ones that don’t pay on time! Most of us have had clients like these, especially in the beginning of business when we’re starting out and will take on every client we can get our hands on.
Set Your Boundaries
Setting boundaries with all clients is a must, not just with the shitty clients. You do NOT have to be available 24 hours a day. You do not need to reply to their message/email at 10pm (in fact, stop checking your emails after 6PM) and set deadlines with them. Some will tell you it’s good customer service to be available constantly, I personally strongly disagree with this.
In my line of work, I often need clients to send me information. Here’s an example. If I take on a new client who wants me to create content for their Facebook Page, I’ll need content ideas from them or their favourite quotes. I put it all in an email and ask for X,Y,Z information by such and such a date. I also get payment up front. That’s a standard with me. No excuses, I want to be paid before I put many hours into my work for them.
Fire Shitty Clients
Oh yes you can. You can fire those shitty clients once your business grows. I’ve done it once and boy did it feel invigorating. I also stopped working with a client a few months ago who said I wasn’t fulfilling my end of the bargain with content. Why am I telling you this? Simple, because they were incorrect.
Here’s what really happened: They said I had made errors (yes there was one post with errors, I admit it, I made an error) I’m human, it happens. Then they said I wasn’t providing them with the content they wanted. THEY DIDN’T send me the content I asked for! That’s what really happened. Despite asking for it some 5 times, they sent me 2 damn quotes in 5 weeks! It was a joke. I was happy to not work with these people anymore. The joke was, they apparently empowered women – it was total bullshit. Oh and did I mention – I grew their stats by a whopping 3000%!!! And they say I wasn’t doing well? Stats don’t lie!!
IF you have to have shitty clients to get the bills paid, at least set the boundaries ladies and gents.
