How to blog and not just throw content out there.

How to blog and not just throw content out there.

How to blog – do you know how? So i i recently came across a post in a group i belong to on Facebook for people in business and someone was asking for help with blogging. So i reached out of course. But then i started reading all the comments on this post and all the ‘just do it yourself’ and ‘just sit and write’ replies. Seriously, it got me a little upset. Blogging is not just journaling, there are structures that need to be followed, looking at templates that are readable and so much more. Not to mention SEO, tags and headings etc. Learning how to blog is not an overnight thing. Blogging is certainly not typing out an email and just sending it out.

How to blog – the basics.

So i have been blogging for years and i love it. I have blogged from anything in the fashion industry to plastic bags. I currently blog for this company and yes i now know a lot about plastic bags now! But blogging is not just about writing and i had to learn how to blog effectively.

Firstly, i have always used WordPress, it is google friendly and almost every blog i see ranked on Google is a wordpress blog. WordPress provides great plug ins and has some great templates too. Secondly, do a little SEO training, spend time reading up on it or with someone who really knows their stuff. I have had Skype calls with Kristen Wilson, she has been invaluable in helping me in the unknown world of SEO. Oh and learn about heading tags too, they make a difference.

Then you’ll need to learn about tagging your graphics that go into the blog post and how to weave your key words into the post without keyword stacking.

These are truly just the basics on how to blog, there is more to learn. This is why people hire me to blog for them. I enjoy it, i know how to write and most importantly, i know how to blog the Right Way!

Story Telling in Business

Story Telling in Business

Story telling in business is one of the biggest marketing tips you need to take notice of. Why? Because people like to see real people, like to know who you are and how did you get to where you are. Don’t get me wrong, you don’t need to talk about yourself all day long. Below i am going to give you some tips on how story telling can impact your business and how you can start story telling. Story telling is personal and people like it.

Tips on how to start story telling in your business.

You could start with telling people how your business was born. How did you start doing what you’re doing and Why did you decide to go down the path you’re on. You can do this through a blog post or through a few little posts on social media. BUT a great one is to jump online and do a Facebook Live and get talking to people. People can see your manner, hear your voice and see your face. This goes a long way in building relationships with your audience.

You could even incorporate a couple of stories of people you’ve worked with and how you came to meet. This is a great way to show examples of how you work too. Plus it’s ok to talk about your family every now and then and what you are up to over the weekend.

How can story telling impact my business?

If your competitors aren’t sharing stories, then this can easily set you apart from them and you will be remembered over them in a heart beat. Because you are building those all important relationships and people are starting to like you. Now we all know, people buy from those that they Know, Like and Trust. Yes i know you’ve heard that before, BUT i need it to sink in. It’s a vital part of business. Let people get to know you through story telling and you’ll start seeing a difference in your business.

Story telling earns peoples trust. It’s said that 92% of consumers say they trust earned media, aka personal recommendations, above all other forms of media. Earned media can include word of mouth, customer recommendations/referrals, media mentions, etc. That’s a huge number and if that hasn’t convinced you that story telling in your business is a no brainer, then maybe nothing will.

For me, i am in business to help other businesses grow. I help businesses grow through social media, marketing and blogging. I also help businesses generate more sales by creating awesome content for their social media platforms and blog posts.

But how do i generate sales through blogging?

generate sales from blogging

Generate sales by writing about what you love.

Your first objective when blogging, is to help people. It should be at the forefront of your mind, not the fact that you want people to buy from you. My blog posts are written to help people, not predominantly make sales. That comes second. Yes i got into this business to generate sales and an income, but i want to help people too. Here are some basic steps to ensure you are blogging the most effectively:

  • You should be using WordPress as your platform. WordPress and Google work well together and WordPress has some great plug ins for SEO.
  • Ensure your tag lines are set up and your keywords are in the correct place. Need help? Contact Me.
  • Blog regularly (once a week) and use your keywords in the right places.
  • Use the Yoast plug in and leant how to use it.
  • Share all these great new blog posts on your social media platforms. Twitter is great for this and it is all free traffic to your site.
  • Don’t forget to share old blog posts too, don’t just write a blog, share it once and then forget about it.

Blogging is by far one of my most favourite things to do for clients. I can get totally lost in it and spend 2-3 hours happily blogging. If you’re not blogging effectively and using SEO, then you are wasting your valuable time.

How Can i Help?

You may want to outsource blogging or you may want a one hour consultation with me, i can show how to do it and then you can blog regularly. Contact me to find out more.

Business Strategy – Do You Have One?

business strategy

Get your 2017 off to a great start with a business strategy in place.

Business Strategy – Do You Have One?

Business strategy and goals, do you have both or even one of these? I always have both, but find many businesses don’t. They have dreams, but no actual goals to make those dreams actually come true. They also don’t have a business strategy in place to achieve those goals. As a result, these business don’t always last very long. Therefore it’s imperative to get a business strategy on paper right away. I have a strategy for just about everything in my business. That way i know where i am and therefore what is working.

What is a business strategy?

Your business strategy is a summary of how your business plans to achieve its goals. The definition of a business strategy is a long term plan of action designed to achieve a particular goal. Or set of goals or objectives. You’ll be astounded at just how little people strategise in their business and many have no idea where to start. Due to an overcrowded market place, you need to get this part of your business in place.

Building your business strategy tips:
  • Grab that pen and paper or a good planner (my preferred option)
  • Go back on posts on your social media and see what worked and what times of day your posts got the most reach.
  • Go back on your blog posts and see which posts got the most reach and how many people commented or shared your post.
  • Don’t let your ego get in the way, ask the experts for help when you need it.
  • If you’re waiting for perfection, you won’t get anywhere fast. If that blog post is 99% ready, publish it! Stop tweaking it for 3 weeks!
  • Educate yourself on social media, trends, blogging and getting great content.
  • Be passionate about what you do and let your clients/customers see that.
  • You can’t do it all alone. Hire the people to do the bits you can’t or aren’t very good at.
  • Set realistic goals and targets that you can meet (very important)

Firstly these are all tips to help you build a healthy business and a business strategy that can work over and over again. As a result, you’ll work less, but achieve more. Which is the end goal or at least should be! Don’t go into 2017 still feeling like you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t have any goals or are still unsure about what to do. Pick up the phone, call me on 07879 464664 (if you’re in the UK) or email me at anytime info@socialsuccesswithsonya.co.uk from anywhere around the world. Let’s get your business strategy on paper. My one hour consultations are just £75 and you’ll walk away feeling like you Can achieve those goals with the right procedures.

Let’s make 2017 an amazing year for your business. Most of all, let’s make it a profitable one.

Using Facebook Live

using Facebook live

Using Facebook Live

Using Facebook live is just about a must for every business right now. Since this live feature was rolled out to every business page and even to groups, it has grown businesses massively and gotten a ton of organic reach. We all know that Facebook barely gives us any organic reach these days and it is only set to decline i’m afraid.

So here are some Tips on using Facebook live:
  • Be sure your lighting is good, also you don’t want a cluttered back ground.
  • No back ground noise, let your audience hear you clearly.
  • It’s ok if you get a little flustered, don’t let that discourage you. If anything it makes you more ‘real’.
  • Turn your phone onto airplane mode, it avoids any calls coming in whilst you are live.
  • When people ask you questions whilst you’re live, use their name when answering their question, people love to be acknowledged.
  • Play around with different times of using Facebook live and different lengths of times too. Try just a quick intro for 2 minutes and then go for longer next time.
  • Always use a call to action whilst live.
  • Ask  people to follow you when you are live, so that they get a message each time you’re live.

These are just a bunch of basic, but very useful tips for you to start your journey using Facebook live. I know for me, going live is waaaaay out of my comfort zone, but having just done it a few times recently for a client, i have found i am more confident and actually enjoy them. I used to dread it, but now look forward to it.

It’s ok to make a few notes and pop them near your phone, it’s easy to forget your main points once you go live.

Live video is only going to get bigger as time goes on, so expect to see more and more streams appearing on your feed. So go have fun with it and make it part of your marketing strategy.

Content Marketing Trends

Content Marketing Trends

Content marketing trends that have been trending through 2016 and don’t appear to be changing. As we approach the end of 2016, content marketing is as competitive as ever and you’re just going to have to get even better at it in 2017 or hire someone to help you. Here are some the trends that have made people a ton of money this year and can be taken into 2017 to help You make a bunch of money too:

  1. Quality over quantity ALWAYS

With newsfeeds being as chaotic as ever and free reach on Facebook being almost non existent compared to say 4 years ago, competition is certainly growing. Pretty much anyone can create a meme these days, but it’s all about the Quality of that meme. A true content marketer spends time on their graphics and creates beautiful pieces that are eye catching and what their audience wants to see. Instead of just throwing any old content out there, spend time creating GOOD content. People want to see new things.

2. Video Marketing

Video marketing has taken over 2016 and it will continue to grow. I must admit, i have not been very active in any form of video marketing and i know i need to get so much better at it. It will be one of my goals in 2017 to do at least one video a week. How often do you do a Facebook live or jump on periscope? Will it be one of your 2017 goals?

3. Instagram is Rising

Business owners are finding Instagram is a great way to get eyes on your content, i for one have found it is working a treat. I create great graphics for IG, post 2-3 times a day and every post has real value. People are interested, they are interacting. It’s fabulous. It’s one of my favourite places to hang out with my clients. One of my biggest tips on using Instagram, ensure you are using the correct size graphics and make them pop. If you’re no good at creating graphics or they take you hours a week, consider outsourcing this task whilst you concentrate on the rest of your business. You’ll soon find you’re making your money by making this small investment.

4. Storytelling – Keeping content marketing real

People like to talk, people also like real people and will relate to businesses who keep it real. Tell a story every now and then whilst posting on social media, let people see there is a real person behind your business. Not someone who is just trying to sell to them every chance they get.

Let’s make 2017 fabulous

These marketing trends are going nowhere fast and will only get even more competitive as the years go on. So sit down, plan what content you want to share next year, decide what your message is. Don’t forget to make a great graphic for all those fantastic blog posts you’re going to write and all those posts on social media that you’re going to share. Don’t be afraid of new things. When we step out of our comfort zones, great things happen. I know video marketing is where it will begin to happen for me, i just need to get ready and get it done, no excuses! It’s so easy to tell yourself you can’t, or maybe next week… STOP! Make 2017 happen for you.

You got into business because you didn’t want the 9-5, you didn’t want the commute and you wanted to be your own boss. I wanted financial freedom and to be there for the kids, do the school runs daily. So let’s do this, let’s make 2017 amazing. Get out your diary and start making notes on the things you’re going to do to make 2017 a much better year for you and your business.

Market Your Business Without Being Annoying

Market Your Business Without Being Annoying

Market your business without being that annoying person who is trying to sell to you every minute of the day. We all know a few of those people right? Being a great marketer is a life skill every business needs and without it, you’re going to sink and you’ll sink fast.

market your business

Market Your Business Without Being That Annoying Person

I just attended an event last week and i was there to network. Maybe pick up new clients if i could. However, all I did was introduce myself, let people know what i did and left it at that. Those that gave me business cards then got a follow up call from me, to then further discuss what we talked about at the networking event.

Because it really isn’t just about selling, it’s about building a network and building those all important relationships.

Let’s talk about how to market your business without selling to people all day long.

You know how you wouldn’t walk into a room and immediately start telling people to buy your product or service? It’s basically the same across your social media platforms.

So here is what i do when i network or attend events.

  • I come ready with my business cards, but don’t shove them in peoples faces.
  • I know what i am talking about, i have a one liner that quickly and precisely lets people know what i do and i do this confidently. Something along the lines of “Hi my name is Sonya, i help businesses with their social media and marketing needs”
  • As the conversation goes on, i let them know how passionate i am about social media and drop the odd tip.
  • I don’t just talk about myself, i also ask people questions, ask them what they do, do they use social media etc.
How To Network Online Successfully.

Promoting your business online is much the same. You don’t talk about yourself all day long, you encourage and inspire and use the 80/20 rule. What’s the 80/20? You sell or promote yourself only 20% of the time, the rest is giving helpful tips, showing people results, posting a few blog links to help people in a specific area.

There is a ton of content you can use for the 80%, you just have to create it or hire a VA to create it. I see all too often on Twitter that all businesses are doing are retweeting other peoples content and actually have none of their own. That won’t build relationships or credibility. You’re basically flogging a dead horse and should probably go and get a full time job.

So here is what you need to go and do:

Create a bunch of new content for your social media platforms. Write some new blog posts (don’t make them all about you) and follow the 80/20 rule. Market your business this way and watch is change. I wonder if you’ll see different results within a couple of weeks of following this? Let me know.

Content Marketing Distributing Tips You Can Take On Straight Away

content marketing

                                                      Content Marketing Tips

Content Marketing Distribution Tips You Can Can Start Implementing Straight Away

Content marketing is a key point of any business in this day and age. Just about any business knows that and if you don’t, you need to get up to speed and quickly.

Let me give you a little example about content distribution. Last week I talked about blogging regularly. So you’ve spent the last week perfecting your latest blog post, finally post it and then what? How do you distribute it after that?

Content Marketing ~ How best to distribute your content.

Personally for my business, i have found that posting my blog posts on Twitter has really helped generate more traffic. At social success with Sonya, we don’t just post the new blogs, we post the old ones too, because they are blog posts of value to my audience. I do post them on Facebook too, but i find they get more interaction on Twitter. How do you distribute your blog posts?

A big mistake that businesses make, is spending 99% of their time crafting their content, and 1% of their time focused on content distribution. It’s not just about writing great content and creating pretty graphics, it’s about getting it out there for people to see too.

Another key point in content marketing and how to distribute it: NEVER rely on just one stream of distribution. Use various social media platforms effectively, use your email list and any other way you can think of. Consistent content marketing is absolutely essential in small and large businesses. Don’t get slack, get creating and get your content out there.

Quick Content and Marketing Checklist:
  • Blog weekly and then deliver that blog post via social media platforms regularly and potentially through your email list too.
  • Always deliver the goods, if you say you’re going to do something, then do it.
  • Design great graphics for your posts, blog and non blog posts too.
  • Create different graphics to use on Twitter, even for the same blog post, it will catch more peoples attention.
  • Spend more time disturbing your content, not just creating it.

Guess what i am off to do right now? Go and create more graphics for my blog posts and schedule some on my Twitter profile.

Why blogging is absolutely essential for your business.

Not blogging? You're leaving money on the table.

Not blogging? You’re leaving money on the table.

Why blogging is absolutely essential for your business.

Blogging is no longer an option in business, every business should be doing it and here are some of the reasons why:

  • Blogging drives traffic to your website
  • It increases your SEO
  • It positions your brand as an industry leader
  • Blogging will also help develop better customer relationships

As i often tell clients, blogging should be an integral part of your business and marketing strategy. It’s like social media, it’s no longer optional for any business, small or large corporations. You need to be doing it.

Most businesses are on one or two social media platforms right? Don’t forget blogging will also give a business more valuable content to share with their audience too. If blog posts are useful and what an audience want to read, then those posts and will get click throughs to their website, which help both with SEO and credibility for any business.

Fresh content is always going to be essential with your social media platforms, so be sure to be posting regularly. Several times a day (at least) on your social media platform, with great graphics and the odd link to your website. Don’t over market, you need to post content that people want to engage with.

How Often Should I Be Blogging?

Firstly, I recommend at least once a week, which therefore lets google know your site is active and provides your audience with fresh content to read. If you can blog more often then that is fantastic, keep doing what you’re doing.

What Should I Write About?

Write about your products, how useful they are and any tips you can provide. Be a resource of knowledge for others. If you provide a service, then provide useful tips. You’ll find my blogs and posts on social media are more about giving tips and inspiring small businesses to keep going and not be afraid to ask for help. Furthermore don’t be the person who just sells, sells, sells. It’s boring and it’s not what people want to read.

Finally, if you’re not blogging, get a WordPress site opened and blog, blog, blog. Have fun and furthermore, enjoy it and don’t forget, provide great content every single time.
